MS Office is not needed.

I was thinking to myself. "What would happen if you educated children with something other than Microsoft office?" Or even more extreme, "what if you educated children with computers running something other than Microsoft altogether?" A recent article renewed this thought in my head recently. The article titled, Microsoft Office 'Not the only way for schools,' specifically addressed the first question. It sighted six alternative solutions to MS Office which give more than the required functionality to educate. Of course, Microsoft would argue that because of the new features found in Office 2007 there is really no other alternative to it.

But is this really the case?

How often to you use all the features found in the Office suite?

After honestly answering that question think about changing or at least looking at the alternatives to see what they offer.
